McAuliffe is Founder and President of Newport Ltd., a leading Japanese direct sales company based in Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1994, Newport performs on behalf of clients a variety of sales and marketing services through its nearly 1,200 sales professionals in over 80 independently-owned sales offices throughout Japan. Current one-to-one marketing services include sales promotion, customer acquisition and product sales. Newport was certified with ISO14001 in 2004.
Prior to founding Newport, McAuliffe held senior-level marketing and strategic development positions for seven years with Reuters Japan Ltd. His responsibilities included developing Reuters worldwide mergers and acquisition strategy for the medical information business, launching a satellite based video information service, and marketing real-time print and video news services.
Before joining Reuters, he worked in Time Inc. Hong Kong for six years. Hired initially as local advertising manager for Time Magazine he later moved to circulation director for Time in Southeast Asia and then Asian circulation director for Fortune International where he successfully launched the Asian/Pacific edition.
Prior to joining Time Inc., McAuliffe worked for eight years in various freelance and staffed editorial positions throughout Asia-Pacific including three years based in Tokyo as Asian editor for Ace International, a trade magazine for the consumer electronics industry.
McAuliffe received an MBA from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business IBEAR Program in 1987 and took his undergraduate degree in English Literature from San Diego State University in 1973. He is active with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the Japan Direct Sales Association.
